Dry Brushing: What is it?

Hello again!
I wanted to share with you one of my newest beauty obsessions: dry brushing. I know what you all are thinking, what in the world is that? Drying brushing is a method of stimulating blood flow to the surface of the skin, promoting new skin cells to form and cause the skin to tighten, often reducing the appearance of cellulite. Sound too good to be true? I thought so too until I bought my own brush and did some experimenting.

Benefits of Dry Brushing:

  • Improvement with digestion, kidney function and circulation
  • Also helps shed excess water and releases toxins as it is gently stimulating the lymph nodes
  • It gets your blood flowing, which can reduce muscle tension & provide stress relief
  • Allows excess fat, mucous, cellulite & toxins to come to the surface instead of settling around deeper vital organs
  • Firms the skin & gives a more even distribution of fat deposits
  • Boosts the immune system
  • Softer, more glowy skin since new skin cells are actively taking the place of the dead skin cells that are being buffed away

What to do:

  • Purchase a natural bristle brush (synthetic brushes can be too abrasive.) They can usually be found at any health food store or online.
  • Start with the arms, always moving the brush in long strokes towards the heart. This is important because that is the natural flow of the lymph in the body. Continue this motion on the rest of the body.
  • The skin should looked flushed after you are finished but not red or tender. If this happens, you are most likely pressing too hard. The motion should gentle, with little pressure being applied.
  • In my opinion, it is best to use your dry brush right before you take a shower since you are getting rid of dead skin cells. Dry brushing also opens up the pores on your skin so the steam from the shower will be very beneficial.
Disclaimer:
I would not recommend dry brushing if you have skin allergies or extremely sensitive skin (eczema, open sores, rashes, etc.)

Love,
     Ky
